How to insure a car for a trip through Europe?

I want to import a car from UK. I no longer live in UK (recently moved abroad). I want to come, buy a car, and drive it to my destination (Malta) legally. How to insure it? Short term insurance? Can I buy it in UK if I do not live in UK now?
I still have my UK driving licence with an address. I can utility bills for this address as well… Maybe just buy at pretend that I am still in UK. Take a temporary cover drive there and then insure it locally in Malta.. ? How does it sound guys?
