How long do I have to register and insure a car after I buy it?
I just bought a 1997 eclipse GS from a private party and they left there plates on it, but I was just wondering how long I had before I needed to register the car under my name and insure it. Also how much trouble can I get in driving the car for the first week if I got pulled over since I need a week before I could afford registration.

You cant drive it off the lot without the car being insured
As soon as you drive home insure it! Do it online or call it in. I’d get it registered within one month’s time.
All states vary. Some are 30, some are 20. If you previously had insurance on a vehicle, the new one is USUALLY (not always covered) for a 30 day period. Like I said..all states are different so just do a google search of the DMV. If you are driving a car without insurance at all, you could be cited for no insurance and pay a hefty fine that would make it even more difficult for you since you can’t afford the registration!
is this your only car? most car insurance policies will cover any car you acquire pending issuance of the new policy, as long as you call your agent with the VIN.
otherwise, dude you are in deep doo doo if you wreck that car!
