My car insurance was cancelled and now they want $3000 to insure me for 6m months. Is this legal?

   Did you get an e-mail? A letter? Sounds like a scam to me unless you’ve had multiple DUIs and traffic accidents, etc. $3,000 for car insurance is absolutely insane! There is no way you should pay that. Call them directly and tell them what you were notified of, because more than likely, this is a scam. If this is legit, look elsewhere. I pay $440 for 6 months of car insurance.

   Sounds like you’re a really bad driver. Insurance rates are based on risk and on the coverage you choose. Is this just liability or does it also include collision and comprehensive coverage? Your state insurance commission or department or board (whatever you have in your state) can tell you if it is a legal rate. I’m guessing it is. Try raising your deductible (if you have collision and comprehensive). That lowers it some. Shop for other coverage from other companies. But if you have been canceled and are a bad risk, other companies are not going to be quick to volunteer to take on the chance that you will hurt someone and they will have to pay out lots of money on your behalf.

   For car insurance the obvious way to get a good rate is do a policy comparison on auto policies. Make sure that you compare similar options with the same deductibles, auto make, zip code, etc so that all options are an accurate comparison.

   What I usually recommend is an internet comparison quote at since they have lots of insurers and can give many prices on car insurance polices.

   Last time I checked insurance companies do not hold guns to your head forcing you to purchase their insurance. If you don’t like the quote shop around. No one here knows your situation. Maybe you have three accidents, 10 tickets in the last year and are trying to insure a new Mercedes. In which case, yeah that would be reasonable. If not then no, but how are we to know. Shop around and see what other companies can offer.

   you must be a really bad driver for a rate that high and you probably have an expensive vehicle
   other than that, it might also be a sign that the company no longer wants to insure you and that rate is meant to run you off…I know when presented with a customer that I didn’t want to insure or deal with I would quote an outrageous rate so they would meander on down the road to my competition

   autoinsurance.undonet.com – check these plans. As I know their rates for bad driving record is not such expensive as from other companies.
